Mute

This one is an entry to one of the writing competitions that my wife participated in.  As she qualified in the regional meet, she represented our school and the province of Rizal.

I have a voice and I can speak
But they have cut my tongue
Now it is from the inside that I shriek
Now I am mute
Silent, Silent, Silent

I have eyes and I can see
But they have placed a blindfold on me
Now I see nothing
Nothing, Nothing, Nothing

I am free
But they have chained me
My hands, they have bound
My feet, they have shackled

A bird whose wings they have clipped
I cannot fly, I cannot fly, I cannot fly

They paint pictures
Colorful, beautiful pictures
But like the headstone of a tomb
Underneath it is rotten and dead.

I have smelled their stench
I know their evil
Yet I have been silenced
A song without a melody
A breathing corpse
A mute who can speak

I have a voice and I can speak
But they have cut my tongue
Now it is from the inside that I shriek
Now I am mute
Silent, Silent, Silent
