Movies: “Cars 3” Races To The Screen For Series' Biggest Adeventure Yet

Lightning McQueen is back on the big screen in Disney-Pixar’s Cars 3 -- but he’s not a rookie anymore. Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Piston-Cup champion finds himself suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves.

“The next-gen racers are cool,” says Cars 3 director Brian Fee. “You can see instantly that cars like Jackson Storm are effortlessly fast. We designed these younger, faster cars to be sleek and aerodynamic—and they’re a sharp contrast to Lightning McQueen.”

Producer Kevin Reher says the story is reflective of real-life champions. “Lightning McQueen has been racing for more than a decade,” says Reher. “He’s struggling with the kind of issues a lot of athletes face later in their careers. Do you go out on top or fight till the end?”

Movies: Young Actress Amiah Miller Plays Pivotal Role In “War For The Planet Of The Apes”

One of the most surprising characters in the highly-anticipated “War For The Planet of the Apes” is not an ape or a man … but a little girl with breathtaking courage. Amiah Miller, in her first major role plays a mute, virus-ravaged human child who comes to be known as Nova – and becomes an essential part of the apes’ journey to their new home.

But if the apes are to survive the coming conflict, Caesar must lead.  In a time when empathy and compassion have nearly vanished both in the world and his heart, Caesar searches for the grit, sense of fellowship and striving vision to lead the apes towards a future of hope.

BURBANK, CA, June 19, 2017 – Following the global success of 2014’s “Godzilla” and this year’s “Kong: Skull Island,” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse: an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history.

Movie Review: Despicable Me 3

Before catching the press screening of "Despicable Me 3"  I suddenly remembered that we saw the first movie as an Anniversary date when we hit the 5th year (or was it the 6th year?) of our relationship. We are currently on our 12th year (yes, we still celebrate our boyfriend/girlfriend anniversary)

I remember not expecting much from the first film but ending up loving it so much. Gru (Steve Carell) has grown so much as a character, probably the most in an animated character in recent years. We've seen him shed his bad guy persona and become a regular good guy. It's cute to see how he struggles with between being good and being bad, when we all know he's really a good guy inside, thanks to the influence of the girls of course.

So with Gru, officially being an agent for the Anti Villain League, being a husband to Lucy and a full  time dad to Margo, Edith and Agnes, what is left for our favorite bald good/bad guy? Well "Despicable Me 3" answers that with an 80's has been child actor for an arch nemesis and a long lost brother!

Okay. I will have to admit that I'm not a big fan of the whole "long lost twin brother" plot - I honestly think its a bit corny (and did I mention that he's also really rich and has a head full of hair (much to Gru's disappointment). Dru wants to get in touch with his inner villain and solicits the help of his twin brother, after a failed attempt to catch his shoulder pad wearing nemesis, Balthazar Bratt, Gru is desperate for any kind of help, even if it means having his rather inexperienced brother along.

What I am a super fan about the film is Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker)! He is my favorite villain ever! #DanceFight !!! I think he is a good addition to the movie, giving that 80's nostalgia for parents who will be accompanying their kids to see the movie. The movie's heavily 80's inspired music is so bad (Micheal Jackson) -that its good! Currently listening to the songs right now. Moms and Dads can tell their kids they once danced to those tunes, a long time ago :P Its also a good way to get your kids a crash course in the 80's.

Of course a "Despicable Me" movie, will not be complete without those crazy minions and I'm glad that this crazy bunch did not steal the thunder of Gru and his family as they were gracious supporting actors, who yes, had their own share of crazy adventures but still let Gru be the star of the show!

I appreciated how the film also featured conflicts from Lucy and the girls, Lucy coming to terms with becoming a mom (a mom who can kick ass by the way) and Agnes' little own unicorn adventure. I love how they were also given some screen time and how these were resolved in the story as well.

There is a beautiful lesson in the movie about expectations, disappointments and making the most of what is given to us, I don't want to spoil anything but its nice to have a word with your kids and discuss it for a bit as a take away, who knows, sometimes even adults like us need to be reminded of this at times and when you get to spend family time, laughing out loud and learning an important lesson at the same time, then its a win-win for everyone :)

6.5 out of 10 - "Despicable Me 3" is now showing!

Movies: “Despicable Me 3” Super-Villain Is Former '80s Child Star

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's new comedy adventure Despicable Me 3 features a new addition to the franchise: Balthazar Bratt, a formidable super-villain who has been plotting to destroy Hollywood after his TV show was canceled.

Once mocked and shunned after his TV series was canceled—due to his quick onset of puberty—Bratt has become obsessed with everything from his glory days. Now embodying his former role’s villainous traits, Bratt surrounds himself with everything ’80s—re-creating the show’s gadgets and vehicles for plotting his revenge.

In classic Illumination fashion, the character is just as defined by his Machiavellian schemes as he is his ridiculousness. “Balthazar Bratt has taken on this child-actor persona as his villain persona,” says cast member Steve Carell who provides the voices of brothers Gru and Dru. “There is also a silly madness to him, and he uses ’80s components as a part of his villainy. The bubble gum he chews become an extremely effective weapon, he dresses in a purple outfit with padded shoulders and parachute pants, and he dispatches people with dance fights.”

Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth instalment of the massively successful Transformers franchise is coming to Philippine cinemas on June 21, 2017.

The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.

Movies: Nick Robinson Ignites Sheltered Girl's Desire To Risk “Everything”

A burgeoning actor who is solidifying his status as the next young leading man, Nick Robinson (Jurassic World) now stars as Olly Bright as the brooding boy-next-door in Warner Bros. Pictures' new romantic drama Everything, Everything (in Philippine cinemas June 21, 2017).

Based on the bestselling book of the same name by Nicola Yoon, Everything, Everything tells the unlikely love story of Maddy (Amandla Sternberg), a smart, curious and imaginative 18-year-old who due to an illness cannot leave the protection of the hermetically sealed environment within her house, and Olly, the boy next door who won’t let that stop them. Gazing through windows and talking only through texts, Maddy and Olly form a deep bond that leads them to risk everything to be together…even if it means losing everything.

“I felt like this was something I hadn’t seen before, that Nicola was a new voice in the world of YA literature,” Robinson says. “I’ve done some work in that genre, but this felt like a really fresh take on it, very original.”

Music + Events: Satchmi Vinly Day 2017

Satchmi's Vinyl Day has always been a must go-to event for Paul and myself, we love the brand and what they represent-the beauty and luxury of the good old days, which we appreciate more in these times of entitlement and instant gratification. (Plus we love vinyl, which is on sale during the event and the live acts are always the hottest in the local scene).

So, for the past few years, we have always been at Vinyl Day, this year was a little different though, since I am already seven months pregnant and waddling across the event floor can be very tiring, I forgot that you actually have to stand for these events and after two bands, I was already tired T_T.

We've actually been more absent than usual in music gigs, given my current condition, its hard to be in a cramped bar when you are so far along, plus people smoke and many trips to the bathroom will prove to be a challenge.

So why did we make an exemption for Vinyl Day? Well, I thought it would be the only music gig I would be able to go to during my pregnancy, the venue would have more space and would be more convenient for the pregnant lady. Plus did I mention we love Satchmi?

We made the most of our short stint at Vinyl Day, Paul took a few photos, I was tempted to pick up a record but my baby list says we still have a long way to go, so maybe when the little one is settled in? :)

I still wanted to see Cheats and Jess Connelly play but we had to call it a day, like I said I was ready to go home after two bands but I did have a take away from the experience, no matter how short it was.

I was am happy to see a growing vinyl community, who will spend money for a record, even when there are streaming services available. I am happy to see a growing number of people who support local music, who go to live shows to sing and dance to the music. I'm glad that a brand like Satchmi has continued to grow and remain relevant in these trying times, I'm happy to see all of these and I'm looking forward to being able to share this all with my son some day, Satchmi Vinyl Day 2017 was his first foray into the world of live music after all.

Movies: “Despicable Me 3” Characters Amplify Lovable Nature

Illumination Entertainment CEO Chris Meledandri believes that “when we leave the movie theater, it is the relationship with the film’s characters that determines how that film will live on in our imaginations.”

This cannot be truer with the studio's new adventure-comedy Despicable Me 3, which continues the story of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions.

The franchise's beloved characters once again return for another memorable story on family, as they are joined by new characters for a richer, funnier tale.

In Despicable Me 3, Gru (Steve Carell) is unceremoniously fired from his job at the AVL, which sends his self-esteem crashing. When he discovers that he has a long-lost twin brother named Dru, Gru takes his family to meet his brother in the rural island country of Freedonia—where Dru has inherited the country’s biggest pig farm. Upon arriving in Freedonia, Gru is hit with an immediate case of sibling rivalry when he finds that Dru—with his gorgeous head of flowing blond hair—is his complete opposite in every way. But when the outwardly perfect Dru asks his brother for help in pulling off the greatest heist the world has ever seen, Gru assumes the “big brother” role and his descent back into villainy starts to restore his confidence.

Charming, wealthy, larger than life, and with a full head of flowing blond hair, Dru (Steve Carell), is Gru’s opposite in every way. He is the life of the party and seems to be able to do everything his heart desires…except follow in the family tradition of becoming a world-class villain. Knowing that his twin is far more accomplished in that arena, Dru is able to talk Gru into pulling off one more major heist. But as the twins find themselves spending more time together, we begin to see that underneath all of Dru’s bravado is a childlike yearning to be accepted by his brother, Gru.

After losing her job at the AVL for defending her husband, Gru, Lucy (Kristen Wiig) redirects her workaholic energy into becoming the perfect mom to their three girls. Masking her insecurity in this role with an overwhelming show of optimism and enthusiasm, Lucy is the first to pack her bags when Gru announces he has a brother in Freedonia. She encourages the girls to embrace the Freedonian culture by taking part in a local cheese festival with her, but Lucy’s well-intended efforts only lead to disaster when she loses track of Edith and Agnes and then almost gets Margo engaged to a weird boy from the town.

Childhood prodigy, criminal mastermind…Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker) is the former child star of the ’80s TV show Evil Bratt, where he played a kid villain bent on world destruction…that is, until he hit puberty and the show was abruptly canceled. Clinging to the past with his fashion and hairstyle, Bratt has become obsessed with the villainous character he played on TV and is determined to exact revenge on the world that turned its back on him. Armed with his weaponized keytar and explosive Rubik’s Cubes, Bratt proves to be Gru’s toughest nemesis yet—as he attempts to re-create the world-ending events from his favorite episode of Evil Bratt and take revenge on Hollywood.

Agnes (Nev Scharrel), Gru’s youngest daughter, is innocent and selfless. When she finds out that Gru and Lucy have lost their jobs, she does everything she can to help out her family, even if it means selling her favorite fluffy unicorn at a garage sale. Initially enthusiastic to travel to Freedonia to meet her Uncle Dru, her excitement goes through the roof when she hears that real unicorns may inhabit the nearby forest. Gru wants to protect his youngest daughter from disappointment, but ultimately doesn’t have the heart to tell her the stories might not be true. And so, heeding the local legend that “only a maiden pure of heart” can find a unicorn, Agnes sets out to fulfill her lifelong dream.

With a master who’s no longer a top-secret agent in the AVL—nor interested in going back to his despicable ways—Gru’s banana-loving Minions are left without any super-cool gadgets to test or any mayhem to be had.

Led by Mel (Pierre Coffin), the Minions decide to revolt and make a go of it on their own. Their journey takes them to a studio lot in Hollywood, California, where—after wreaking havoc and drawing the attention of law enforcement—they accidentally wander onto the set of a singing competition show and are forced to perform. The Minions are then arrested and thrown in jail for breaking and entering. Realizing that simple survival without Gru is more challenging than they thought, the tribe decides to break out of prison so they can reunite with their former boss, unaware that he is about to face off with a very unhinged Balthazar Bratt.

Opening in Philippine cinemas on June 14, Despicable Me 3 is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.
