Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Arc gets two movie installments for 2014

You can never really have enough of a good thing and that is exactly what is happening with the news that there will be not one but two Rurouni Kenshin live action movie installments next year!

Announcement from Shonen Sunday

Shounen Sunday has announced that there will be two live action movies to be released in 2014 and these two movies will center on the fan-favorite - Kyoto arc A.K.A. Shishio-arc. Fans know this as Shishio Makato's attempt to take over Japan by over throwing the Meiji government. It could arguably be considered as the most popular arc in the manga and the series.

Last year's Rurouni Kenshin debuted at number one in Japanese theaters when it was released in August. It has since earned $36.7 million in Japan and $25 million internationally.

While it took a few more months and lots of negotiations to have the movie screened in the Philippines check out my blog post here it was shown in Philippine cinemas last December and has earned at least US $100,000 in just three days of it's Philippine screening. It is considered as the highest grossing Japanese film in the Philippines and earned US $ 314,303 and was being shown in 50 SM Cinemas by December 9, 2012.

My Rurouni Kenshin Movie Musing post, click here is also one of the top most viewed post in the blog, you can check it out here - it is a comprehensive comparison of how the anime and the movie, as well as my own thoughts in it.

Fans will be pleased to know that Takeru Sato will be reprising his role as the wandering swordsman and if the series is any indication he will surely be in for more challenging scenes and fights. Hmmm- now I wonder who will be playing Shishio Makato? This will be a crucial role and can really set the tone of the next two films, casting has been spot on for the first movie so let's see who will be cast into what roles for the upcoming two movies.

Let's all keep an eye out for updates- 2014 just got a whole lot better!
