Filipinos love to sing. It's an undisputed fact. Celebrations and get togethers always have some form of singing involved, whether it is by having a old big ass karaoke machine, a lone guitar or just plain drunk singing. Which is why its no surprise that there was a steady crowd of viewers and onlookers as amateur singers got up on stage as they sang their favorite karaoke hits with the hopes of making it to the next stage of Sony's Party-oke Caravan

Sony's Party-oke Caravan is making its way all over the Philippines as it seeks to find the best karaoke singers out there! Its open to all ages and anyone can join! All you have to do is to visit the Party-oke booth, pick your go-to Karaoke song (make sure you have the lyrics memorized) get up on stage and give the performance of your life.

It was nice to see everyone from your blind masahista to grocery bag boys and your amateur singers go up on stage and sing their hearts out to the audience. We had Luke with us and I was really happy to see him watching the contestants and even clapping at some of his favorites.

Aside from the ongoing Party-oke contest there was also an impressive display of different Sony products and as audiophiles we just love Sony. Its a long and trusted brand and its exciting that they are sharing their technology with our love for singing with their new-Sony V Series

With the Sony V series you can now level up your Karaoke session. It comes complete with flashy 360 degrees party lights, LIVE SOUND feature for high quality music output, and two mic inputs.

Events: Cologram at SM Masinag

Who says the rainy season is always gloomy?

Color's don't only fit summer, rainy days can surely be filled with colors too!

The triangles #Colorgram at SM City Masinag displays a colorful pop-up exhibit themed for the rainy season. Brightly colored areas in the exhibit, which are Instragrammable (very important!) include a Cloud Wall, Swing Wall (my favorite) Umbrella and Rainbow areas, colorful pyramid blocks and a larger-than-life Jenga-like area. Also displayed hanging across the mall atrium are rows of colorful umbrellas.

Along with the Instagrammable areas of the Colorgram set up are pocket events, "Paint that FUNBrella", "Mural, Mural on the Wall" and "QRolorful Codes", which not only call on shoppers to come and participate in but could also let them win prizes from SM City Masinag! Shoppers can use the official hashtag #DaviesColorsSMMasinag in posting on their social media.

The Triangles #Colorgram at SM City Masinag runs from August 10-18, 2018. It is also made possible, through the partnership with Davies Paints.

Events: Disney Life Launch

Launch of Disney Life at the Glorietta Activity Center

I'm one of those kids who literally grew up with Disney movies. I remember my preschool teachers admiring my "Beauty and the Beast" monologues, I "performed" scenes from  the movie because I had memorized all the lines and the songs, from watching it again and again on VHS tape. I remember dancing to the music of "The Little Mermaid" with my cousins, from a cassette tape which we played over and over again. And I think that there's an embarrassing memory of performing songs from "Aladdin"  with my neighborhood friends. So 'yes' in short I had the Disney childhood and as an adult I guess I'm just so lucky that Disney has also 'grown' with me, it has amassed popular properties and has continued to spread its Disney magic so that those of us who grew up with it can enjoy the classics and future generations can fall in love with them as well. Of course its a bonus that so many can also enjoy the new material they are coming out with as well.

And now to make it even easier to access these, Disney and Globe have joined together to bring all the Disney content we can enjoy in one magic app!

You can read more on the launch of Disney Life below! :)

Dressed in the traditional Barong taglog and Baro't saya, Mickey and Minnie are joined by Disney and Globe executives at the launch.

Netflix News: Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant Thrilled During Manila Visit

Drew Barrymore and Tim Olyphant wave at fans during the Red Carpet Event of Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet.

In town to promote Season 2 of Netflix's horror comedy "Santa Clarita Diet" Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were met by eager fans who met the actors on the red carpet event last March 12, 2018 at the Fashion Hall of SM Megamall.

The two surprisingly felt at home surrounded by a sea of screaming fans as they talked about their first trip to the Philippines, surprisingly the Netflix event not being the first time. Barrymore was in the country a few years back for her company "Flower Beauty", while  Olyphant once lived in Davao when he was younger, his father worked with Del Monte. He added that his great grandfather was an engineer in the University of the Philippines, much to the amusement of the audience.

Bird's eye - View from above of eager fans waiting for Barrymore and Olyphant.

Drew and Tim signed memorabilia for fans and took selfies with them, before answering some questions about the series, which will be available for streaming on March 23 on Netflix. The Red Carpet event was followed by a premiere of episode 1 of the new season. Thoughts and review on that will be posted soon :)

One of the things that I loved about the first season was the strong relationship of Sheila and Joel, whom Barrymore and Olyphant play in the series. The husband and wife, who live a normal suburban life as realtors in sunny Santa Clarita suddenly have everything turned upside down when Sheila becomes the undead and suddenly has a craving for human flesh! Joel, who because of his love and devotion for his wife, helps her with her new lifestyle, despite the challenges that come along the way. It was nice to see the comedic tandem and undeniable chemistry of the two leads in person as they each gushed about how it was a pleasure to work opposite each other.

Before wrapping up the press con, they were served with dirty ice cream ala Santa Clarita style, blood red, with red syrup and topped with an eyeball and a thumb! :P

It was an incredible experience for us to see them in person-we're fans. You can click here to read more on me gushing about Drew Barrymore as well as see the trailer for Season 2 of Santa Clarita Diet.

Music + Events: Satchmi Vinly Day 2017

Satchmi's Vinyl Day has always been a must go-to event for Paul and myself, we love the brand and what they represent-the beauty and luxury of the good old days, which we appreciate more in these times of entitlement and instant gratification. (Plus we love vinyl, which is on sale during the event and the live acts are always the hottest in the local scene).

So, for the past few years, we have always been at Vinyl Day, this year was a little different though, since I am already seven months pregnant and waddling across the event floor can be very tiring, I forgot that you actually have to stand for these events and after two bands, I was already tired T_T.

We've actually been more absent than usual in music gigs, given my current condition, its hard to be in a cramped bar when you are so far along, plus people smoke and many trips to the bathroom will prove to be a challenge.

So why did we make an exemption for Vinyl Day? Well, I thought it would be the only music gig I would be able to go to during my pregnancy, the venue would have more space and would be more convenient for the pregnant lady. Plus did I mention we love Satchmi?

We made the most of our short stint at Vinyl Day, Paul took a few photos, I was tempted to pick up a record but my baby list says we still have a long way to go, so maybe when the little one is settled in? :)

I still wanted to see Cheats and Jess Connelly play but we had to call it a day, like I said I was ready to go home after two bands but I did have a take away from the experience, no matter how short it was.

I was am happy to see a growing vinyl community, who will spend money for a record, even when there are streaming services available. I am happy to see a growing number of people who support local music, who go to live shows to sing and dance to the music. I'm glad that a brand like Satchmi has continued to grow and remain relevant in these trying times, I'm happy to see all of these and I'm looking forward to being able to share this all with my son some day, Satchmi Vinyl Day 2017 was his first foray into the world of live music after all.

Events: Free Comic Book Day 2017

Free Comic Book Day has become an annual tradition and there's always something new every year. For 2017 it meant introducing the #LittleJedi to this tradition. So with my 6 month belly bump Paul and I went to Fully Booked in BGC, it was a little later than our usual time since we had some baby errands to do first but thanks to the baby bump, no need to get in line. :)

The folks from Fully Booked were kind enough to accommodate this waddling pregnant lady. After getting our #FCBD haul, we made our way to the Artist Alley at Top Shelf and it was nice to see artist friends in their booths, getting to feature local talent at events like these is a plus to me!

Featured FCBD artist and fellow music geek (we headbang with each other at gigs) Pejie Abia
Because we came in later in the day, we were able to see more cosplayers than usual and Paul had fun taking their photos! We dropped by Comic Odyssey to pick up a gift for Paul's goddaughter, who seems to be taking after us when it comes to hobbies and interests and coincidentally also celebrates her birthday at the first week of May. :)

One Halloween Comic Fest we brought our nephew and nieces, we opted to go on FCBD2017 on our own, as I mentioned we had a baby errand earlier in the day. Maybe at the next event and if the #LittleJedi is big enough, we might bring him along as well. This annual tradition is becoming a family event (I also sometimes spend it with my siblings) and well, I wouldn't have it any other way!

Events + Movies: Krispy Kreme Screens Power Rangers

If you've already seen the new Power Rangers flick then you probably already know what all the buzz is about with Krispy Kreme and the movie.

I was pleasantly surprised myself when I was watching the movie and there was all this reference to the yummy Doughnut chain. I knew that Krispy Kreme had a new product in line with the movie, I got a chance to try it a few weeks before and I loved the Power Rangers Donuts! Its basically a chocolate glazed donut, with silver sprinkles, Power Rangers thunderbolts with the five Ranger colors. Its also vanilla filled!

They have an awesome deal for these donuts where you can buy 6 Power Ranger donuts and 6 Original glazed donuts for only P299! Hurry though because its only up until April 7!

So going back to Krispy Kreme in the Rangers movie it was (in my opinion) product placement done right. The film's writers just went for it, literally just went for the jugular and the kill. No, I know that product placement in movies is really tricky, there have been many who been burned by it but the 2017 Power Rangers does it right by just going for it and even incorporating it into the story. They made into a joke that works, one where the audiences can genuinely just laugh and enjoy. Some may not be fans of the product placement but you know it will really boil down to how you decide to leave the cinema with it.

I decided to like it and just wanted more donuts! If I could get these Ranger donuts from it then not bad eh?

We were fortunate enough to have been invited to the Krispy Kreme screening of "Power Rangers" at the Central Square Mall in Bonifacio High Street (Dolby Surround!). When we got there there were Rangers in costume, cute kids having their pictures taken, a super cute booth and of course the Power Rangers donuts!

Thank you so much Krispy Kreme for having us! We had a great time! <3 It was an awesome #KrispyKremeMoment

Now to get myself those donuts (again).

You can check out my review on the 2017 Power Rangers up in the blog! Just click here

Music: A Night with Aia, Barbie and Kitchie

Another late post. So sorry - you know how it is. "Rogue One", big baby news (apparently I was already pregnant when we saw "Secrets"- so rest assured this baby has been exposed to great music) I have to take it easy, no more burning the midnight oil to write posts and get them done right away (although I really want to).

December 10, 2016.

Despite the infamous Manila traffic, which has become a horror story of sorts, urging residents to stay at home, the brave flocked Greenhills-notorious for traffic jams and difficulty and scarcity of parking spaces, especially during the holiday rush, faithful fans were still patiently in a long line, snaking ouside the iconic Music Museum, eager to see a once in a lifetime show.

They say that two's company and three's a crowd, well that certainly was not case during a great night for OPM, when three of its timeless and long enduring female singer-songwriters Aia De Leon, Barbie Almalbis and Ktchie Nadal joined forces - for an unforgetable performance, which showcased each of their musical prowess. They thrilled fans who were able to enjoy a good dose of old favorites, probabbly bringing back a memory or two with certain songs and lyrics. Like for me personally, Barbie Almalbis' "You can take the whole wide world with your boyish charm" from her song "Just a Smile" was for a boy, I had a crush on in College (and no, it was not Paul) and were also able to discover (not so) new songs, probabbly adding to new favorites.

Long before the lights opened inside the Music Museum went on, fans in the audence were already shouting confessions of love and devotion to these ladies, which shows that despite the years that have passed (decades, even) their fans have always been there, cheering them on, eager to see them perform, and yes perhaps even to sing along, because well, we Filipinos just love to do that.

Former Imago front woman, Aia de Leon was up first and chose to communicate with the audience through the use of a LED screen, which had hilarious lines, reflecting her friendly persona and drew laughs from the audeince as well. As she was performing, I realzied that I knew most of (if not all) the Imago songs, and just confirmed how big a part they were of my College years.

Not limiting herself to the stage, Aia bravely walked to the audience and without any accompanying microphone for herself or her guitar, performed "Sundo" which caused goosebumps (and a bit of a tear) because it was just so raw and so beautiful, again with the audience eager to sing along (with second voice pa!) and I fell in love with the song and with Aia all over again.

Its good to know that she is coming out with new songs next year, mostly digital releases and maybe some physical copies, to those who may be interested (raises hand).

Never faltering in her guitar skills, Barbie Almalbis opened her 45 minute set with a jaw dropping display of her magic fingers as she played the guitar like a queen, slaying any wannabe Guitar Hero. Her technical playing has always set her apart as a musician, elevating her songs to more than just your pop song on the radio.

Of course her unique and signature voice still has not changed over the years, endearing fans of multiple generations to this now proud mom of two. In case you didn't know, she recorded her last two albums at home so she can be with her kids. Now those are some #MomGoals.

From a household name, Kitchie Nadal was the girl next door, who was the face behind that hit song, "Huwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihin" do you remember when it became a smash hit? It was everywhere! Yet Nadal has become more than just that song, at the pinnacle of her success she decided to travel, for two years. Instead of pursuing what would have no doubt been a career with hit after hit, she chose to travel, and work with NGOs, helping children which was evident during the concert as she asked three talented boys, from her "ROAR" project to perform with her on stage.

"They became viral with a video on Youtube" she tells the crowd proudly.

It is as if these three talented singer-songwriters each went on their own personal journeys, bringing with them their own experiences, their own lessons in life, and it is these very personal and very different roads which have allowed them to break free from the cookie-cutter, singer-songwriter mold and become their own personal brand of musicians.

As if a 45 minute set per artist was a great enough show, the ladies also shared the stage together, covering songs from The Cranberries and yes, even Nirvana. They each also performed each others' hit songs, much to the amusement of the crowd.

Now it is no surprise that the show was a sold out success and if you missed it, fear not because the mighty trio will be back in February! So make sure to start saving up for that! (Tickets may run out fast!) It is concert season after all, with it being Valentines and all.

"Secrets" : A Night with Aia, Barbie and Kitchie was an intimate show, one that I will not soon forget (I made a Spotify playlist, as a reminder) and a "secret" that is too good to keep to myself.

Events + Music: Aia, Barbie and Kitchie team up on “Secrets” Concert

Now this is one for the books!

These ladies of local music have maintained relevant throughout their long lasting careers, a feat not so easily achieved in this fickle industry. Looking forward to catching these talented ladies!

Celebrated alt-rock icons Aia de Leon, Barbie Almalbis and Kitchie Nadal are teaming up for the first time on their first major concert on December 10, Saturday at the Music Museum.
Dubbed “Secrets: A Night with Aia, Barbie and Kitchie,” the one-night show will feature intimate and captivating performances from three of the finest singer-songwriters of our time.

Join Aia, Barbie and Kitchie as they churn out self-penned classics and introduce a couple of new songs on a bigger stage. Aside from the individual sets, the trio will be collaborating on a jam session arranged by the show’s musical director, Mr. Niki Cabardo.
Individually, their work has always been a great addition to the canon of contemporary Filipino tunes, and the challenge of bring it back to life on the center stage will surely excite music listeners given the magnitude of the task.

“This show is our way of giving back to Filipino music fans who have been wanting to see them play on stage together,” Secrets PR and Marketing Director Ian Emmanuel C. Urrutia shares. “But more than anything else, this concert is a celebration of Aia, Kitchie and Barbie’s staying power and contribution to the music scene.”

Secrets is produced by Vandals On The Wall and Gabi Na Naman Productions, the same folks responsible for the sold-out success of Dama and Dama: The Repeat concert featuring acclaimed singer-songwriters Johnoy Danao, Ebe Dancel and Bullet Dumas. It is the third of the many planned shows that aim to give homegrown acts an opportunity to make history and be part of something big.
