Events: Cologram at SM Masinag

Who says the rainy season is always gloomy? 

Color's don't only fit summer, rainy days can surely be filled with colors too! 

The triangles #Colorgram at SM City Masinag displays a colorful pop-up exhibit themed for the rainy season. Brightly colored areas in the exhibit, which are Instragrammable (very important!) include a Cloud Wall, Swing Wall (my favorite) Umbrella and Rainbow areas, colorful pyramid blocks and a larger-than-life Jenga-like area. Also displayed hanging across the mall atrium are rows of colorful umbrellas. 

Along with the Instagrammable areas of the Colorgram set up are pocket events, "Paint that FUNBrella", "Mural, Mural on the Wall" and "QRolorful Codes", which not only call on shoppers to come and participate in but could also let them win prizes from SM City Masinag! Shoppers can use the official hashtag #DaviesColorsSMMasinag in posting on their social media. 

The Triangles #Colorgram at SM City Masinag runs from August 10-18, 2018. It is also made possible, through the partnership with Davies Paints.

Events: Summer Mess Fest Kicks Off At SM City Masinag

Who would have thought that you can get wet, have fun and enjoy a blast of color right at your favorite mall? We were thrilled when Luke was invited for his fist blogger gig at SM Masinag's Summer Mess Fest! So here's what went down. 

Summer fun invades the SM Malls of the East as the Summer Mess Fest launches at SM City Masinag.

The Summer Mess Fest is a fun, outrageous and messy event for kids of any age. It is compose of different messy stations including Messy Sands of Fun wherein kids can be creative building their own sad castles in colorful beach setup; Messy Splat of Colors is a station wherein kids will enjoy painting with their hands using non-toxic paint. Messy Sweet Land is a station with a sky-high pie face challenge with giant props for photo opportunity and Messy Bubble Party, a fun energetic dance party with a burst of colorful powder and giant bubbles. Summer treats and surprises are up for grabs at the Messiest Bazaar for kids and parent alike.

The Summer Mess Fest will make a stop at SM City Marikina on May 5 & 6  and CM City San Mateo on May 12, 2018. It is one of the exciting events of SM Supermalls for Everyday is Playday at SM Campaign.

Netflix News: Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant Thrilled During Manila Visit

Drew Barrymore and Tim Olyphant wave at fans during the Red Carpet Event of Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet.

In town to promote Season 2 of Netflix's horror comedy "Santa Clarita Diet" Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were met by eager fans who met the actors on the red carpet event last March 12, 2018 at the Fashion Hall of SM Megamall. 

The two surprisingly felt at home surrounded by a sea of screaming fans as they talked about their first trip to the Philippines, surprisingly the Netflix event not being the first time. Barrymore was in the country a few years back for her company "Flower Beauty", while  Olyphant once lived in Davao when he was younger, his father worked with Del Monte. He added that his great grandfather was an engineer in the University of the Philippines, much to the amusement of the audience.

Drew and Tim signed memorabilia for fans and took selfies with them, before answering some questions about the series, which will be available for streaming on March 23 on Netflix. The Red Carpet event was followed by a premiere of episode 1 of the new season. Thoughts and review on that will be posted soon :) 

One of the things that I loved about the first season was the strong relationship of Sheila and Joel, whom Barrymore and Olyphant play in the series. The husband and wife, who live a normal suburban life as realtors in sunny Santa Clarita suddenly have everything turned upside down when Sheila becomes the undead and suddenly has a craving for human flesh! Joel, who because of his love and devotion for his wife, helps her with her new lifestyle, despite the challenges that come along the way. It was nice to see the comedic tandem and undeniable chemistry of the two leads in person as they each gushed about how it was a pleasure to work opposite each other. 

Before wrapping up the press con, they were served with dirty ice cream ala Santa Clarita style, blood red, with red syrup and topped with an eyeball and a thumb! :P

Events: Nicholas Hoult No Longer About A Boy But A Man of His Own

When the news broke that Nicholas Hoult would be headlining this year's Asia Pop Comic Con, articles online began recalling his past roles, mostly in his recent works as Hank McCoy/ Beast in the X-Men movies, the War Boy in the critically acclaimed "Mad Max: Fury Road", and as the zombie "R" in the young adult book to movie adaptation "Warm Bodies" to which he received three Teen Choice Award Nominations and won the Teen Choice Award for Choice Breakout Performance.. He also received acclaim for his performance as Tony Stonem is "Skins".

What most people may have forgotten is that Nicholas Hoult started acting at the age of seven and played the cute Marcus Brewer in "About a Boy" in 2002 and starred across Hugh Grant in the comedy drama. Hoult was nominated as Critic's Choice Movie Award for Best Young Performer. 

I honestly feel "old" since I remember the movie and I think I watched it a couple of times back then. This was when Hugh Grant was starring in romantic comedies and well, Hoult was just a kid and now look at him!

Aside from starring in pop culture hits, Hoult has done voice work in video games. He voiced "Elliot" in the video game, "Fable III". Hoult has 'model' on his list of work, as he was the face of Tom Ford eyewear Spring Collection in 2010.

Aside form his multi media performances, Hoult is currently working with Christian Aid, which is the official relief and development agency of 41 British and Irish churches. 

Hoult also works closely with the Teenage Cancer Trust. He has also been known to support the "Enough Food IF campaign", which aims to end global hunger. 

There is much buzz that this Hollywood headliner is on his way to our shores for Asia Pop Comicon. It just goes to show how much of the convention circuit has grown in the Philippines.

Events: Breakout Philippines Takes You To Don't Breathe's House of Horror

Art Made Public Opens in SM Center Angono

I don't know if you've noticed it but art seems gaining in popularity recently and Paul and I couldn't be happier. In our hometown of Rizal, Angono has always been known for it's artistry in it's children, such as National Artists ‘Botong’ Francisco and Maestro Lucio San Pedro. This artistry has been passed on to generations and these talents continuously flourish into the national and international art scenes. 

And in celebration of the National Arts Month, SM Center Angono partners with Metrobank Foundation in staging Art Made Public exhibit for the first time in the town of Angono and in Rizal Province.

True to its commitment to launch the careers and provide opportunities for young Filipino artists and designers, the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) launches the 32nd year of the Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE), one of the most prestigious art & design recognition programs in the country. With the theme “Finding Phenoms in Art”, MADE hails Filipino artistry and creativity through its annual recognition programs for the painters, sculptors, interior designers, and architects. 

Now on its 4th year, the “Art MADE Public” of the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. aims to heighten public appreciation for the arts at the same time promote Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) to young Filipino artists and designers to join its recognition programs. Art exhibitions and art lectures has been held nationwide in various cultural institutions, the academe, including commercial establishments like SM Supermalls.

Mallgoers of SM Center Angono can now view thereproduced art pieces by contemporary Filipino artists who are MADE awardees such as Antipolo natives Reynaldo Samson, Antonio Leaño. Also on exhibit are the works of ElmerBorlongan, Melvin Culaba, Lynyrd Paras and a lot more.  

A lecture series about contemporary painting and sculpture were given by past MADE winners – Prof. Thomas Daquioagand Juan Sajid Imao, son of National Artists Abdulmari Imao to Fine Arts students of University of Rizal System Angono Campus under the tutelage of Jose Glenn Blanco, a scion of the brilliant Blanco Family.

The Art Made Public Exhibit runs until February 29, 2016 at SM Center Angono.

Heroes Run takes on Batman V Superman on April 9

I have never been the sporty or athletic type of girl, often preferring a good boom or a movie instead of running around with a racket, or sweating it out in the gym. Which is why it's good that I always have the option of running around the village, you don't have to think of anything, just have music and run! It's a good go-to-exercise whenever I feel I'm getting on the chubby side :p

Last year's World of DC Fun Run was such a great event, I'm really happy that it's coming back this year -but with a fun and specified...market you would say. 

In time with the highly anticipated Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice movie (in cinemas, March 26) Heroes Run will have runners choosing a side- Batman or Superman? Of course, you can be neutral and just go Wonder Woman right? :)

Super Hero for a day at the World of DC All Star Fun Run

And they're off! An estimated 11,000 participants joined The League at the World of DC: All Star Fun Run

Last Saturday, April 18, 2015, the Philippines became the only South Asian country to participate in a global effort to gather the most number of people dressed as characters from the D.C. Universe. I participated in this collective effort by joining the World of DC All Star a Fun Run. During this event; which is the first of it's kind, runners get to wear singlets of their favorite superhero. The singlet also comes with an additional costume piece (masks for Batman, The Flash and Green Lantern, a head band for Wonder Woman and a cape for Superman). I decided to choose Superman (because I can pass for a Super Girl) I mean how many times do you get to run around with a cape without being chased by orderlies?

This was actually my first time to join a fun run. You would most likely find me behind a book or in front of the TV instead of doing any physical activity that would require me to be outdoors. In preparation for the event, my sister and I ran on Monday mornings, much to the approval of our mom.

If you follow me on social media I have been posting a lot about the event and you can say that my excitement was even doubled since it was my first run. So just imagine my surprise at the overwhelming number of participants that came for the event. A quick stop at Mc Donald's at 4AM already reveled our fellow runners in their super hero singlets. 

My sister and I were pleasantly surprised to see children joining the race as well! Not only were the kids dressed in the official race singlets provided but some of them were even in full costume! We were cooing and pointing out how cute the kids were. Speaking of cute - even pets came to the fun run dressed in costume! I think that was the first time I ever saw Superdog :)

As the sun rose over Manila bay, super heroes of all shapes and sizes (children in costume were holding the hands of their parents who were of course in costume too), prepared for the gun start and went along their own pace, some with family, some with friends. It was a super fun run, so to speak. :)

An estimated 11,000 runners joined the event, our friends for the Justice League PH were also present, with The Flash even running the 3k in full costume :) 

I really hope there will be another one next year, it was great to see everyone come out and become a hero for a day, maybe they can future more characters for next year :)

For The Love of Music: Satchmi Vinyl Day

Music Lovers go through crates of Vinyl and genres of  music, spanning decades. 

While people are either posting or watching about a certain musical festival happening half way around the world. I can't help but wonder why people yearn and wish for something so far away when we have Satchmi's Vinyl Day right here?

Yes it may not have the flower children or bohemian themed attire or the huge circus tents or a Ferris wheel but isn't the heart and essence of all music festivals- the music? 

So yes people it's not the celebrities who come to the party to be seen, it's not about the fashion, and who's wearing what-or in some cases - who's not wearing what, but it's about the gathering of kindred spirits; it's about people coming together to celebrate the love for music and Satchmi Vinyl Day has that and so much more!

Last Saturday, April 11, music lovers gathered as Satchmi, a team of curators ingeniously

brought back the love of the old and married it with the youthful energy of the new which brought about Vinyl Day. A day filled with nostalgia as we go through crates and crates of Vinyl and are at the same time, serenaded and entertained by some of our own home grown talent.

12 amazing local bands, more than 8 hours of awesome live music. Crates and crates of Vinyl from different genres, across decades of music - on discount! This is not just your dad's vinyl but it could be yours too, as the crates reveled jeweled finds such as Taylor Swift's 1987 (don't deny it some of those Swift songs are pretty catchy), Panic! At the Disco's "Too weird to live, Too rare to die" as well as The 1975's debut album (I have both on CD). So you see it's not all The Beatles, Led Zeeplin and the classics. It's a whole array of music, you never know what you'll find! 

Aside from the live music and the vinyl there were also lots to see, do, eat and drink around the Ampitheater at BGC. Craft Ice Cream KOOL KIDS (and yes I'm thinking about Echosmith) had free yummy ice cream (tastes like heaven), while EDSA Beverage group had a variety of delicious drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) to offer thirsty music lovers. It was nice to get to try out new things and not just have the same staple refreshments :p 

There was even a listening booth wher you can listen to vinyl on some bad ass Motorinos. 

The event started at around 4:00 PM (fans were already elbow deep in vinyl) and ended a little after midnight, it was hosted by Jobim, Paulynne and Lambert Cruz of Jam 88.3. There was something for everybody with the 12 bands of different genres who kept the crowd singing and dancing throughout the night; from the sick beats of Tandem 91, the swag guys of Jensen and the Flips, electro-pop prodigy B.P. Valenzuela, crowd favorites Autotelic, music industry tested Imago, fire starters Cheats and an explosive ending from Pedicab. 

A lucky fan also got to bring home a brand new Satchmi Motorino, I saw her dancing at the side of the stage after claiming her coveted prize (anyone would, really). :)

My hearts swells to bursting as I hear the crowd singing along with the bands performing, as I hear lovers of music looking through vinyl and embracing a way of life that has not dissapered, who choose to patronize the music and support the artists and industry. It's all for the love of music and there was definitely a lot of that during Satchmi's Vinyl Day - will definitely save up so I could go on a vinyl spree! Satchmi's Vinyl Day has been happening for the past three years and if the turnout alone is an indication I know that there will be more! It's all for the love of music and it's overflowing!

Vinyl Day: Reminding us of the Love that Music deserves

I'd love to get my hands on those Vinyls <3 

I don't have a record player nor do I have a single vinyl-yet but as my CD collection steadily grew (that tends to happen when you write album, EP and LP reviews) and after visiting Satchmi I wanted to start collecting vinyls as well.

My father-in-law had his own vinyl collection back in the day and so with much excitement I told him of my interest of wanting to collect vinyls, there was a pause after I said my piece then he says: "Why?" "Why would you want to collect vinyls?" 

Words like "Classic" and "Vintage"  popped into my head as I thought of responses to this question; I thought 'because I am an aspiring music collector and as some someone who blogs about music I should have my own vinyl collection!" 

'Because the sound of a vinyl being played on a record player - is just awesome! 

'It's an amazing conversation piece!'

'It would be a bad as* element in my interior design' 

There are many reasons to start collecting vinyls at a time when songs can be streamed and downloaded for free; at a time when music can be played from anything and anywhere. There are many reasons to start collecting vinyls, some maybe superficial, some acceptable and understandable but there is one thought that has stuck with me and is probably the one that means the most - Vinyls reminds us of the love and respect that music deserves.

Songs being available digitally have become a double-edged sword; while it has made songs and music easily available; the artist is not compensated for their craft. Sound familiar? Yeah that's probably the sad story of every creative struggling to make a living out of his or her art.

"People are not respecting the music and devaluating what it really means" Jay-Z told Billboard. "People really feel like music is free, but will pay $6.00 for water. You can drink water out of the tap and it's good water. But they're okay paying for it. It's just the mindset right now. 

Which brings us back to what the humble vinyl represents - the good old days when people happily paid for the music - and here are some reasons why the vinyl is humble and mighty in its own stead. 

Vinyls are not cheap and that's because music should not be, as my husband would say: "We have to give back to the artist" and this means paying for the music, something that should be done - no questions asked. 

Vinyl collectors take care of their Vinyl, just as toy collectors would care for their own toys. Great care is taken care so that the vinyl and the turn table is not damaged, scratched or that dust does not settle on it. The same should go for music. We should value and support the music that gets us through a difficult time, the music that was there when no one else was (oh come on, I know you've had those moments too). 

You might think that paying for a digital download on iTunes or streaming apps is a good enough way to support an artist, while that may be the case just think about it this way - the artist only gets a small portion of what you're paying for those digital downloads- it's literally just change. You're also missing out on the packaging that goes with the albums, I mean there is a lot that goes on in conceptualizing these covers and sleeves and it's just a shame that all you have is a digital copy when you can have one that is printed. 


I love that Vinyls represent the good old days, I love that despite the digital world that we live in right now - the love for good old days still resonates and you can be a part of that good old way of loving music too - just head on over to Vinyl day!

Do you guys still remember when English Indie Rock band The 1975 took Manila by storm? Crowds gathered at whatever mall they were playing in. "Selfies" and "photo ops" with the band members were scattered across Social Media whether it was on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
