Events: Disney Life Launch

Launch of Disney Life at the Glorietta Activity Center

I'm one of those kids who literally grew up with Disney movies. I remember my preschool teachers admiring my "Beauty and the Beast" monologues, I "performed" scenes from  the movie because I had memorized all the lines and the songs, from watching it again and again on VHS tape. I remember dancing to the music of "The Little Mermaid" with my cousins, from a cassette tape which we played over and over again. And I think that there's an embarrassing memory of performing songs from "Aladdin"  with my neighborhood friends. So 'yes' in short I had the Disney childhood and as an adult I guess I'm just so lucky that Disney has also 'grown' with me, it has amassed popular properties and has continued to spread its Disney magic so that those of us who grew up with it can enjoy the classics and future generations can fall in love with them as well. Of course its a bonus that so many can also enjoy the new material they are coming out with as well.

And now to make it even easier to access these, Disney and Globe have joined together to bring all the Disney content we can enjoy in one magic app!

Movies: “CARS 3” TEASER TRAILER WARNS EVERYTHING WILL CHANGE

Wasn't really excited when I first heard that there was going to be a 3rd Cars movie BUT when I saw the surprisingly dark and cryptic trailer I was impressed and now curious. 🚗

The unexpectedly dark teaser trailer of Disney/Pixar's Cars 3 is off to the races, arriving with a cryptic tagline, “From this moment on, everything will change.”

Check out the trailer at https://youtu.be/E4K7JgPJ8-s and watch Cars 3 when it opens in the Philippines in 2017.

In the film, blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!

Directed by Brian Fee (storyboard artist “Cars,” “Cars 2“) and produced by Kevin Reher (“A Bug’s Life,” “La Luna” short), “Cars 3” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Philippines.

Movie News: MEET HANK, DORY'S CRANKY NEW FRIEND IN “FINDING DORY”

In Disney-Pixar's “Finding Dory” (opening June 16th in the Philippines), Dory, Marlin and Nemo embark on a new adventure—this time to the California coastline—on an uncertain search for the family Dory thinks she left behind. Their journey leads them to the Marine Life Institute (MLI), where they meet a diverse array of sea creatures.

In the journey to the MLI, Dory finds herself separated from Marlin and Nemo, and must rely on her own intuition—as well as a host of colorful characters, appealing to each of them to help her on her quest. Foremost of them is Hank, a disgruntled octopus voiced by “Modern Family's” Ed O’Neill, who was tapped to bring Dory’s chief wingman to life. “He doesn't like anybody and just wants to be left alone,” O'Neill shares.

“We realized that Dory needed a foil,” says director Andrew Stanton. “Dory was created in the first movie as a surrogate for Nemo. Marlin’s emotional journey to be a better parent called for a character like Dory to test him. Kids—and Dory—are very in the moment; they don’t think about the future too much. They take risks and have fun.

“For this film,” Stanton continues, “we needed a surrogate Marlin. Hank is a curmudgeon, an introvert. He really doesn't want to be healed and sent back out to the ocean. He’d prefer a solitary existence inside an aquarium tank, so he's trying to get himself into a more permanent installation.”

“Hank is smart, set in his ways and very cranky,” says Ellen DeGeneres, the voice of Dory. “He's not happy where he is, while Dory is always happy wherever she is. There's a great juxtaposition between these two; they're complete opposites. It's a great pairing because she is so innocent, yet pushes him to open his mind. They're both fearful—though Dory doesn't realize it. She just keeps swimming.”

Hank is actually a “septopus”: he lost a tentacle—along with his sense of humor—somewhere along the way. But Hank is just as competent as his eight-armed peers. An accomplished escape artist with camouflaging capabilities to boot, Hank is the first to greet Dory when she finds herself in the Marine Life Institute. But make no mistake: he’s not looking for a friend. Hank is after one thing: a ticket on a transport truck to a cozy Cleveland facility, where he’ll be able to enjoy a peaceful life of solitude.

“Hank tests Dory,” says Stanton. “He questions her optimism, her bravery. He brings out the best in her, and she does the same for him. He’s reluctantly kind. He has a heart of gold that Dory seems to sense from the start.”

Filmmakers deliberately developed Hank’s personality to contrast Dory’s bright disposition. “We can get a lot of comedy out of pairing opposites,” says co-director Angus MacLane. “Hank is actively trying to get away from connection, while Dory is striving to make one.”

“Hank would be happy living out his days in a secure aquarium all by himself,” says Max Brace, story supervisor for the film. “He’d do anything to avoid going back to the ocean—even if it means escorting Dory through the Marine Life Institute.”

“They need each other,” says O’Neill. “Hank never thought he could make friends, but he’s slowly drawn in by Dory’s charm. Through a lot of adventure, danger and fear, they bond. They become friends through their experiences.”

Stanton says O’Neill captured the character perfectly. “His voice carries that duality of curmudgeon and softie,” says the director. “Ed nailed that in one way in ‘Married with Children’ and an entirely different way in ‘Modern Family.’ We never thought of anybody else.”

O’Neill, who voiced a character in Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph,” says the key is having an open mind. “There isn’t really a way to prepare for animation,” he says. “I did do one thing: I Googled ‘mimic octopus’ and found this creature I didn’t even know existed. There are several different types of octopus, I learned. The one I’m playing is a shape-shifter. It’s crazy.”

Meet Your New Favorite Buddies: Arlo and Spot in "The Good Dinosaur"

We humans seem to have a deep fascination with dinosaurs. Earlier this year the "Jurassic" franchise was revived with 2015's highest grossing film - "Jurassic World". Where (yet again) we see that science and an extinct species don't mix and that a theme park full of live dinosaurs is never a good idea.

The creative folks from Disney and Pixar once again take this fascination with dinosaurs and put a twist in it, asking a great what if and dares to ask the question "What if the asteroid that hit the earth which caused the extinction of the dinosaurs - missed?"

Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend (Spot). While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.

“It’s the story of a boy and his dog—only in our story, the boy is a dinosaur and the dog is a boy,” says director Peter Sohn.
“It’s also a coming-of-age story,” adds Sohn. “Arlo is afraid everything. But his father, Poppa, is always there for him, encouraging Arlo to step out of his comfort zone, to confront his fears, to make his mark.”
“From the moment Arlo is born, he’s afraid of the world,” says director Peter Sohn. “He’s fun-loving and determined; he’s got a lot of fire when it comes to his desire to help his family. But he’s scared. His fear holds him back.

The film catapults Arlo into a vast wilderness that forces him to confront his fears. According to producer Denise Ream, the stunning and often overwhelming landscape that artists created ultimately played an important role in the story. “Nature can overcome anything,” she says, “including a massive dinosaur.”

Along the way, Arlo encounters a host of unique personalities who all contribute to his evolution—whether they mean to or not. But the friendship he builds with Spot has the biggest impact. Says Sohn, “The bond that grows between Arlo and Spot allows Arlo to push through his fear and take on the ultimate nemesis: nature.”

In case you missed it there's a widespread #FindArlo media campaign across Southeast Asia and we need everyone's help to find him! You can read more in the blog post here!

Opening across the Philippines on Nov. 25, “The Good Dinosaur” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures. Follow the official social media accounts of Disney in the Philippines, namely, (FB) WaltDisneyStudiosPH, (Twitter) @disneystudiosph and (Instagram) @waltdisneystudiosph and use the hashtag #GoodDinoPH.

Del Carmen migrated to the US several years after graduating from the University of Santo Tomas. Aside from co-directing “Inside Out,” Ronnie del Carmen has also been a member of the story team on a number of the Pixar’s films, including the Academy Award-winning features “Finding Nemo,” (hence the Nipa Hut in the Fish Tank) “Ratatouille” and “Up” (for which he served as story supervisor).

Del Carmen flies home to Manila as part of a South East Asia tour from August 2-10. He is joined by Inside Out director Pete Docner. The Disney-Pixar creative geniuses will be going on a 3 day city tour whic will start in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and proceed to Jakarta Indonesia and end in Manila Philippines. About “Inside Out”

From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

Opening across the Philippines on August 19, “Inside Out” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.
