Movie Review: Johnny English Strikes Again

If you came to the theater for a good laugh-then by golly gee are you going to laugh! Laugh so much that your stomach would hurt because Rowan Atkinson just proves why he is one of the most talented comedians out there. Being recognized by generations for his endearing work and talent. Ask any child or adult and they would easily recognize Atkinson as his alter ego Mr. Bean. In an interview I watched, it was mentioned that Mr. Bean is a globally recognizable figure because he does not use words to communicate, it is all Rowan Atkinson's physical movements, from the twitch of an eye, to how he raises his eyebrows where he tells the story and it is hilarious!

"Johnny English Strikes Again" -opens when a cyber attack on MI7 exposes all known field agents, forcing the agency and the Prime Minister (Emma Thompson) to rely on old retired agents to find out who is behind the attack.

We then get to see what Johnny English is up to all these years, he is now a teacher in what seems to be a school very reminiscent of Hogwarts and interestingly, he hasn't really left the spy life behind him as he tries to teach "being a spy" to his students.

Back in the field and reunited with his local and very useful sidekick Bough (Ben Miller) -Johnny English is out to save the day!

Spy movies tend to showcase the latest technology in their gadgets and plot but the "Johnny English" franchise stays true to its brand of spy comedy by staying "old school". Hilarity ensues with Atkinson's Johnny English refusing to even use a mobile phone when he is once again sent into the field to investigate an ongoing cyber attack on the UK.

While the plot is nothing new or are there any edge of your seat car chases, it is Atkinson's timeless and comedic performance which will have you roaring in laughter. I thought that the bits were played out just long enough, not too long to be draggy but just right to get enough laughter I was actually worried because I haven't seen any of the Johnny English movies but that's okay, since the plot is simple and easy enough to follow.

5.5/10 -If you need a good laugh, this film is for you.
