Movies: Book-To-Film Hit Series “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” Introduces The New Heffleys

Beginning as a series of online cartoons, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” was an instant sensation when Jeff Kinney’s first novel was released in 2007.  The novel spent almost three years on the New York Times children’s best seller list, printed in 53 languages and has sold 180 millions of copies around the world that spawned a series of movies which has already reached 225 million in global box office.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid brought us the adventures of Greg Heffley, a wise cracking preteen who must survive the treacherous jungles of middle school.  The second film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules focused on Greg’s family and his relationship with his older brother Rodrick.  The third film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days focused on Greg’s family and his relationship with his father and best friend Rowley.

The ninth installment in Kinney’s book series and the latest movie adaptation “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” takes us on a Heffley family road trip to Meemaw’s 90th birthday that goes off course when Greg Heffley (Jason Drucker) schemes to go to a gaming convention.

It’s all for mom in the upcoming family movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” as Alicia Silverstone leads her reluctant brood on a road trip for quality family time.   Based on the bestselling children’s series by Jeff Kinney, along with Silverston, the latest movie features an all-new cast that includes Tom Everett Scott, Jason Ian Drucker, Charlie Wright and Owen Asztalos.

Silverstone, known for her hit charming movie “Clueless” and won MTV’s awards for Best Breakthrough Performance and Best Villain in her film debut “The Crush” brings to life another endearing relatable character in “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” as Susan Heffley,  mom of wimpy kid Greg who tries to convince the rest of the family that going to their grandmother’s house via road trip is the best way to make up for lost quality family time.  Obsessed as she is with family time, Mrs. Heffley also bans use of electronics along the road much to the dismay of Greg, older brother Rodrick and...Mr. Heffley.

Unwilling at first to go their grandmother’s birthday celebration, Greg suddenly becomes the most eager when he discovered that a gamer convention is going to happen near their grandma’s town.  Mrs. Heffley lits up with high hopes that this might be the best family trip ever  and starts packing for the family, bringing Spanish CDs, nutritious meals, card games and making sure little Manny, the youngest of her boys is all tucked in comfortably.  Along the way, their family’s hilarious cross-country adventure turns into an experience they will never forget.

A movie so ideal for today’s generation to take their moms to, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” opens on May 17 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Movies: Misadventures Continue In Family Comedy Movie “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul”

An all-new cast is about to experience the road trip of their lives in the family movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” based on the bestselling young adult book series by Jeff Kinney.

In the latest movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid:The Long Haul,”   Greg Heffley convinced his family to attend their grandmother’s 90th birthday party.  Unknown to his parents, Greg just wants to attend a gamers’ convention nearby their grandmother’s house and soon, the trip goes hilariously off-course.

The all-new cast includes Alicia Silverstone, Jason Ian Drucker, Charlie Wright, Owen Asztalos and Tom Everett Scott directed by David Bowers.  Author Kinney said that the latest movie will take on a very timely theme, one that “every family is talking about” particularly the tension between gadgets time and real family time.  “This is a chance for us to tell the contemporary family’s story and to do it in a humorous way,” said Kinney.

“When Alicia Silverstone’s name was first floated, it caused quite a stir,” said Kinney. “Most people know her from ‘Clueless,’ but when I think of her, I remember her as a teenager in the Aerosmith videos from the ‘90s. Then you do the math and you realize, oh, yeah, she’s actually the right age for the role. I guess we all kind of grow up.”
