Tech: Sony launches first Artificial-Intelligence-based video analytics solution

Sony has announced its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Edge Analytics solution, the REA-C1000, which allows users to create video content in real time, without the need for professional training, additional staff or equipment.

The compact and lightweight REA-C1000 uses its advanced AI-based video analytics technology to analyse the input received from connecting cameras, automatically extract the object in focus and combine it with other images in real time on a GPU (Graphics Processor Unit). This unique technology uses motion/face detection and colour/shape recognition, effectively making the REA-C1000 the powerful brain to any connecting camera and AV setup to create professional content in a cost-effective manner for education, government and corporate organisations, keeping audiences engaged.

“Video content has become a key method of communication in many organisations including education, government and corporate environments, and the demand for solutions that create high quality content, offer a hassle-free shooting experience, and help distribute content quickly is rapidly increasing,” explained Lawrence Tang, Head of Business & Industrial Solutions Marketing Division, Professional Solutions Company (PSAP), Sony Electronics Asia Pacific. “At Sony, we want to provide organisations on a limited budget with cost-effective, yet powerful solutions that allow them to easily create professional and engaging video content. The REA-C1000 is yet another example of Sony working with our AV partners to create solutions together that help solve the real-life technology and budget challenges of our customers.”

The REA-C1000, available from April 2019 onwards, comes with five optional features: handwriting extraction and presenter overlay, PTZ auto tracking, close-up by gesture, chroma key-less CG overlay and focus area cropping.

Handwriting Extraction and Presenter Overlay: By optimising parameters and processing the images received from the camera, the REA-C1000 can extract hand-written objects from black and white boards using Sony's unique moving/still object detection algorithm. This allows audiences to clearly see written content and diagrams as well as the gestures and expressions of the presenter simultaneously.

PTZ Auto Tracking: Constantly stay in frame and in focus, the REA-C1000 can accurately and smoothly track a presenter throughout the presentation. This feature provides users with a tracking solution without having to invest in a camera operator.

Close-up by Gesture: The REA-C1000 can detect and react to the gestures of the audience, displaying the overview image and zoomed image in real time. When an individual stands up, the REA-C1000 can trigger the camera to electronically auto-zoom in to that person. This is particularly useful in education environments and in corporate presentation settings such as Q&A session.

Chroma key-less CG overlay (available later in 2019 via software update): Based on Sony's motion detection technology, this function can extract the presenter and overlay them onto any background, without the need for dedicated backscreen or special training. Users can create appealing content easily to engage their audiences.

Focus Area Cropping (available later in 2019 via software update): Using this feature, image from one camera can be simultaneously shown as two different output images. The users can get an overview image in 4K and a cropped image in HD. The cropped area can be static or dynamic to follow the speaker’s movement.

After an initial 60 day free-of-charge trial period, the above features can be activated permanently through separate licences, providing users with the freedom to customise features based on their individual needs and budget.

Leveraging Sony’s know-how in image quality and their heritage in camera development, the REA-C1000 supports 4K/HD input and output, and connects directly to Sony’s PTZ cameras – BRC series and SRG series – as well as its range of XDCAM camcorders, which boast outstanding image quality and are widely used within the broadcast industry. Further, thanks to its HDMI network connection, the REA-C1000 can be seamlessly integrated into various common AV setups involving either multiple displays, large screen projections with monitors, or even live-streaming projects.

Visitors to ISE 2019 will be able to experience an interactive demonstration of the REA-C1000 at Sony’s Stand 1.N20, RAI Amsterdam from 5 – 8 February 2019. For more information, please visit www.pro.sony.

Tech: Are you an LED or OLED TV Kind of Person? Don’t Let That O Confuse You

When choosing the right TV for your home, you may need to consider a few factors in order to fully embrace an immersive viewing experience. If done wisely, you can transform your living room into a mini home theater. With a wide range of options for TV that are now available in the market, from LED TV to OLED display, it is vital to know that the extra “O” between OLED and LED makes a difference in these two display technologies.

As a clear leader for both LED and OLED technology, Sony has been involved in research, development, and production for years, and can claim many first with these technologies.

Both technologies offer outstanding realism, slim designs, and sharp images, thanks to Sony 4K HDR Processor X1™ Extreme. This newly developed processor has 40% more real-time image processing; it takes everything you watch and upscales it to near 4K HDR quality. The major difference between the two comes with their backlight requirement. LED displays offer better reduced energy consumption, with an outstanding contrast and a great color range. Meanwhile, OLED TVs provide much wider viewing angles than LED.

Wishing for that theater experience in the comforts of your own home? The Organic Light Emitting Diode or “OLED” delivers unparalleled black, infinite contrast and color which tends to look best in a darkened or dim room which is ideal for your movie and series binge watching. Every detail is visible with its self-illuminating pixel, making every movie more realistic and immersive.

On the other hand, LED TVs use LCD display technology and LED backlight to irradiate the screen so the picture looks vivid even with the lights on. Whether you are going for that game night or streaming the latest match on TV, Sony has got you covered.

The Sony 4K Ultra HD TV models deliver the goods with their wide range of selection of OLED and LED TVs where one can choose from depending on your preference. Sony’s 2018 TV line-up comes with different designs that brings cutting edge technology from picture, sound, design, and beyond into your home. As Sony continues to partner with Google Assist all of the 4K models will be based on the ‘Android TV’ platform. These stunning TVs whether OLED or LED, bring a new meaning in streaming your favorite movies, series, documentaries, and sports.

Play your favorite songs and tap to the rhythm or add a twist by tapping the touch panel and enjoying the sounds of a variety of drum samplers. Tech: Ready, Set, Bass: Gabbi Garcia shares her EXTRA playlist for every mood

(Manila, Philippines, 14th December 2018) – Sony’s new EXTRA BASS “It Girl” Gabbi Garcia runs us through her current playlist; sharing her top favorite jams for every mood. A typical day for this rising star requires wearing different hats - an artist, a music student, and a global brand endorser. How does Gabbi cope with the demands of her job and the stress that comes with it? Well, she gets by with a little help from her favorite songs.

People know I live with deep passion for music, and this is actually one of my priorities alongside acting. So here’s how my current playlist looks like with every mood I’m in.”

Feeling Ecstatic!

“When I feel very light and optimistic, and I’m claiming that it will be my best day ever, I got Ben&Ben’s Sunrise as my default go-to song. And for days that are EXTRA, like when I feel super excited and I need that EXTRA push before I go on-stage, I jam to Pateros by Apartel.”

The Sony EXTRA BASS It girl is a huge fan of OPM music. Just this year, she also release her own single, All I Need. Gabbi also shares that she tags along her very own Sony SRS-XB31 portable speakers especially when she needs a boost of positive energy.

Taking it Slow

“Every now and then, just like everyone else, I also have those slow downtime moments when I’m feeling a little bit sad, a little bit sentimental. During these days, my wireless Sony headphones (MDR-XB650BT) are my best company. My current playlist for this mood would be Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby by Cigarettes After Sex - I zone out with this in the background. And I also chill to Jess Connelly’s Turn Me Down during days when I’m booked with shoots and tapings.”

Despite that Gabbi is basically living life on the fast lane, she shares that getting some alone time to free her mind and meditate is her trick to take it slow from time to time.

Pump it Up!

Gabbi ensures to keep herself fit and healthy by doing her regular trips to the gym, and according to this busy It girl, what better way to keep the sweat going than by listening to New Rules by Dua Lipa

“I just love listening to Dua Lipa while working out. It keeps my energy high and good vibes are just overflowing. As soon as I hit the gym, I’m game on so I use my wireless in-ear Sony earphones (WF-SP700N) it’s bluetooth activated so I can move freely and just focus on my fitness program.”

Another Dua Lipa fave is One Kiss, which goes on repeat when she’s with friends and family; blasting it on full volume using her GTK-XB60 speakers.

As a self-professed music lover, Gabbi doesn’t go a day without listening to her favorite songs. The Sony EXTRA BASS series - from wireless headphones, to in-ear earphones, to speakers – lets her enjoy music as she segues from one schedule to another. Now, she’s listening to her current favorites with EXTRA passion and with EXTRA BASS.
