About “Glass”

From “Unbreakable,” Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from “Split” are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.

Following the conclusion of “Split,” Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

This riveting culmination of his worldwide blockbusters will be produced by Shyamalan and Jason Blum, who also produced the writer/director’s previous last two films. They produce again with Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock, and Steven Schneider, who will executive produce.

20th Century Fox has just revealed the first poster of YA superhero movie “The New Mutants” starring  Charlie Heaton, Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga and Alice Braga, directed by Josh Boone who also helmed the hit young adult movie “The Fault in Our Stars”. 
             
As 20th Century Fox continues to redefine superhero movies such as “Deadpool” and “Logan” that became worldwide blockbusters, “The New Mutants” poises to be another one of their most daring move yet by leaning on to the YA-horror genre as the super-powered teens are revealed - confined in a seemingly secret facility while being haunted by horrifying visions.

Fear will follow everywhere when “The New Mutants” opens in Philippine theatres on April 11, 2018, a 20th Century Fox feature film to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Movies: 20TH Century Fox Unleashes “The New Mutants” First Trailer

20th Century Fox finally released the first trailer of “The New Mutants” directed by Josh Boone that will open in Philippine cinemas on April 11, 2018.

The story of the “The New Mutants” revolves around a team of mutant heroes comprised of the first graduates from Charles Xavier’s school.  The exciting new movie stars  Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/ Cannonball, Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage.

In recent news, Stacey Snider, chairman and CEO of 20th Century Fox shared, “New Mutants” is about these teenagers who are just coming into their powers. It’s like watching mutants go through adolescence and they have no impulse control, so they’re dangerous. The only solution is to put them in a “Breakfast Club” detention/“Cuckoo’s Nest” institutional setting. It protects the people on the outside, but it’s strange and combustible inside. The genre is like a haunted-house movie with a bunch of hormonal teenagers. We haven’t seen it as a superhero movie whose genre is more like “The Shining” than “we’re teenagers let’s save the world.”

Additonally, Anya Taylor-Joy reassured fans in recent interviews, “I think the nicest thing about it is that Josh Boone, our director -- he's just such a fan of the comics, and he really loves them so much that he's really interested in just making sure that we do the comics justice for the people that love the characters. You know, we all feel so lucky to be such incredibly loved characters. So, while it's definitely a departure from the X-Men movies, the fans won't be disappointed. We definitely kept all the important bits in there.”

Movie Review: SPLIT

I was thrilled to have seen "Split" with the husband, mostly because "Identity" (2003) is one of our favorite movies. The two films share the same themes of "Dissociative Identity Disorder" (or "Multiple Personality Syndrome") and fortunately that is where the similarity begins and ends. 

In "Identity" the audience sees what goes on in the mind of a person with multiple personality disorder, different actors portray the various personalities of a serial killer. While in M. Night Shyamalan's "Split" we see Kevin portrayed by the talented James McAvoy in an impressive one man show of a highly functioning person with Dissociative Identity Disorder who has 23 personalities living inside of him. His performance was incredible and note-worthy and should not be missed, especially if you are a fan. 

Trouble brews when a 24th personality, unlike any other is slowly clawing its way to the surface. As a result, three girls are abducted by one of McAvoy's personalities and are kept in an enclosed room, for what reason is yet to be known. 

Among the abducted girls is the social outcast (pity invite) yet observant Casey (upcoming actress Anya Taylor-Joy) who sees through their captor. 

Yet not even Casey's quick wit nor Kevin's psychiatrist Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley) could stop the 24th personality or "the beast" from revealing himself. 

7/10 -In what is more psycho-thriller-fiction than anything else, M. Night Shyamalan gets his game back with an entertaining and daring film. 

I received a message from one of my movie loving friends, asking me what I thought of the film, given that it has received criticism for its "stigmatization of mental illness and dissociative identity disorder" and I thought that this was strange since M.Night Shyamalan creates such a fictitious plot that (as I said) is more Psycho-Thriller-Fiction really. Would definitely need more to convince me on the biological aspects of the film. If anything, the film just shows the continued support needed, both in research and for the car of individuals with (this) mental illness. 

Amidst the heart racing, edge of your seat thriller is a realization that there is a real "beast" out there and it is those that dare to take advantage of the innocence of children, sometimes they are strangers, sometimes they are family but yes, they are out there and that is a frightening reality, not just something that you see in movies. 

MOVIES: JAMES McAVOY AMAZES AS MAN WTH MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES IN “SPLIT”

Golden Globe Award-nominated actor James McAvoy won over global audiences with his critically acclaimed performances in Atonement, Wanted, X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Now, he stars in Universal Pictures' new suspense thriller Split, an original film that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind.

McAvoy stars as Kevin who has evidenced 23 personalities—each with unique physical attributes—to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), but there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Taylor-Joy), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan felt there were only a handful of actors who could play the demanding role of a man with 23 personalities in Split. It was paramount for Shyamalan that Kevin’s personalities not be viewed as caricatures but as fleshed out personas that audiences would embrace with sympathy.

Shyamalan saw McAvoy as absolutely up for the challenge. “This is the most complex character I’ve ever written. I was thinking, ‘Does he understand what I’m asking him to do in this piece?’ And he did; I’ve never worked with an actor so fearless.”

Starring James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Split is an original film that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind.
