Singapore, 15 January 2019 - One of the most powerful Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Captain Marvel – is set to make landfall at the iconic Marina Bay Sands for a special Fan Event on Thursday, 14 February.

Hot on the heels of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War fan event last April, Marina Bay Sands is prepping the ground for another heart-stopping Fan Event for the highly anticipated movie, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel, which will see Hollywood stars Brie Larson (Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Gemma Chan (Minn-Erva), along with the film’s directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, fans are invited to be part of this free-to-public event at Sands Expo and Convention Centre on Thursday, 14 February. Due to venue capacity limitations, all attendees will be required to pre-register and collect their ticket in person on Sunday, 10 February, at Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Level B2, Hall F.

Registration will commence at 10am on Sunday, 10 February, and will run until tickets are fully redeemed. Fans must have a valid Marina Bay Sands or SISTIC ticketing account and will need to provide their account details in order to register for the event in person. If they do not have an existing Marina Bay Sands or SISTIC ticketing account, it is highly recommended that they sign up for one prior to registration day on Sunday, 10 February. Important points to remember for registration and ticket collection:

• A Photo ID (Passport or NRIC) is required to register in person. 
• A valid Marina Bay Sands or SISTIC ticketing account is required for registration.

• Fans must be physically present to register for themselves and cannot register on behalf of anyone else. 
• Tickets are non-transferable and fans may be subject to ID verification checks on the day of the Fan Event. The organisers have the right to deny access to those with tickets that have been transferred or tampered with.

About “Glass”

From “Unbreakable,” Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from “Split” are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.

Following the conclusion of “Split,” Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

This riveting culmination of his worldwide blockbusters will be produced by Shyamalan and Jason Blum, who also produced the writer/director’s previous last two films. They produce again with Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock, and Steven Schneider, who will executive produce.

Movie Review: Kong: Skull Island

Bringing the "monster movie" genre to a whole new level, Kong: Skull Island allows viewers to see Kong in his natural habitat, the audiences get to see him for the King that he really is. So, nope-no climbing of skyscrapers in this one. 

Set right after the Vietnam war, Skull Island gets a funky 70's upgrade with the music, which I will talk about in length because I am a music geek. I loved how the film integrated a rather sturdy portable record player in the story which allowed for some awesome songs such as Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and "Run Through The Jungle" by Credence Clearwater Revival, which are just some of my favorites from the soundtrack. I have a portable record player of my own, so seeing that in the movie was a personal treat for me. 

Another aspect of the film which made me happy was seeing the movie through photography with Brie Larson's Mason Weaver, a feisty "anti-war" photojournalist, of all the characters, she had the most 70's vibe about her, which I appreciated, though very subtle. It was nice to see the story told behind the lens which in my opinion added to the human side of the movie.    

While history, music and photography are just added bonus in the film, this is still of course a "Monster Movie" to its core and it was a monster movie of epic proportions, the jump scares were effective and I found myself screaming in my seat (more than once) and watching from behind from my fingers. I can say that it is my favorite monster movie to date. That final battle will leave you at the edge of your seat as Kong ensures his place in his kingdom and claims the title of "King". 

While the story is simple enough -get in uncharted island, find monsters, people run, people die, we need to escape-there are still some talking points in the characters, mostly in Samuel L. Jackson's Preston Packard who after feeling the shame of losing the Vietnam War is desperate to regain some kind of honor, even at the point of putting his men in danger, this desperation turns to an insatiable thirst for revenge in the movie, its funny what war does to a person.  

Speaking of characters, there were pretty thin, save for Jackson and Larson. Tom Hiddleston's saving grace was his tight blue shirt and that hero shot of him running through a cloud of poisonous gas while slashing through monster birds with a Japanese sword. 

John C. Reilly as a marooned survivor with his dry humor was a crowd favorite and the end credits dedicated to him was a nice touch. 

Since we are talking about post credits, make sure to stay after the credits as there is a post credits scene which teases at how the film sets up for the Monster Cinematic Universe. *wink* *wink* (Godzilla). 

8 out of 10. Kong: Skull Island is an enjoyable Monster Movie, one that I will surely see again. I recommend that you see it in cinemas though (IMAX) if possible for the full "monster experience". There are also some beautiful images in the film, such as Kong's silhouette against a raging orange sunset with helicopters flying in to take on the king and seeing that on the big screen is a must!

Moviegoers in the Philippines get a rare chance to awaken the king of monsters earlier than anyone else in the world!  Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have scheduled midnight screenings of Kong: Skull Island on Thursday, March 9 at 12:01AM in participating cinemas across the country. 

 

Be the first one to watch the controversial post-credit scene that’s bound to be talked about right after.

MOVIES: VIN DIESEL BACK TO BREAK EVERY RULE IN “xXx: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE”

In 2002, then emerging actor Vin Diesel starred in the action-thriller xXx which became a blockbuster, grossing over $350M worldwide. Diesel played Xander Cage, the first recruit to the ultra-secret xXx spy program, alongside Samuel L. Jackson as Gibbons, the program’s leader. Now, Diesel breathes new life into the franchise with xXx: Return of Xander Cage -- a project fans have been demanding for nearly a decade.

For the action superstar, it was a nothing short of a homecoming. “There’s a need to re-visit this type of hero archetype,” says Diesel. “Xander is, in some ways, the reluctant hero, the anti-hero. It’s something that I’ve always felt like I owned. I always felt like, sooner or later, I’ll have to return to this character and right the wrongs of the past,” he says.

The xXx concept has always been and still is, about one bad-ass hero, able to handle everything in his way with a charm and humor no other secret agent has ever possessed. “We were very conscious of the status quo of spy films at the time of the first xXx. We had all the log lines that said, ‘It’s not your daddy’s secret agent’ or ‘a new breed of secret agent,’” Diesel says. “The shaping of xXx at its time, was that the heroes were white males who have a military background and they weren’t necessarily representative of the global audience. All of a sudden along came Xander Cage, who was anti-establishment and looked nothing like James Bond or Jason Bourne. He really was something wholly new and fresh,” says Diesel.
