Movie Review: The Lego Batman Movie

There are a but a few iconic characters who have stood the test of time, have had countless incarnations and is beloved by generations-and Batman is without a doubt one of them. 

Created by Bob Kane and  Bill Finger and making his debut in 1939- that's 78 years ago! Bruce Wayne's alter-ego is one of the most recognized characters in history. So much so that we have even attributed the saying "Bahala na si Batman" in our colloquial language to him.  The saying of course, is often used when all hope is lost and only someone as awesome as Batman can get you out of impossible situations. 

So it was no doubt that Lego Batman (voiced  by Will Arnett) became a fan favorite, fans loved him, ego and metal music and all, despite his minor role in the (2014) hit "The Lego Movie" and it was a no brainer that the caped crusader would soon be the lead of his own Lego Movie thus the "The Lego Batman Movie". 

In following with the now tradition of Lego Movies' of out of this world, in your face humor, "The Lego Batman Movie" is unlike any Batman movie-ever. It is one which children will enjoy and adults (no matter the age) will love as well.

From the first seconds of the movie (yes, even the logos) to the last second it is one whirlwind ride of laughs and tugging at heart strings, playing on the Batman lore and legend, giving nods to the long legacy that is Batman, whether in the comic books, the Television shows or the movies. 

Will Arnet's Batman is unapologetic in taking jabs at characters within the DC Universe and even characters that are not in their property - oh yes, they went there and it was hilarious. I swear, we were laughing so hard in the cinema, I think we were the loudest in there. 

I think what I liked best about the movie is that, yes you expect the film to be hilarious but what I did not expect was the surprise lessons that even the Dark Knight has to learn and they were some really emotional moments in the film and no, its not just the pregnancy hormones but you know I really felt for Batman. His reluctance of working in a team, his fear of being part of a family, all of it really pulls at you but of course its a Lego Movie so its still funny how everything falls together.  

I will also have to say, that the surprise look into the Joker and Batman "relationship" just had me cracked up laughing. These two have a very complicated hero-enemy "thing" going on and it was hilarious to look at it from a different angle. Really-my tummy was hurting from all the laughing. I would have wanted a crazier Zach Galifianakis as the Joker but was very happy with Micheal Cera's Robin. I was very much impressed with the voice work that he did. He does not sound like himself at all! 

Lego Alfred (Ralph Fiennes), is also my favorite Alfred-ever!!! 

The whole movie is filled with an all star cast of voices, that you would just geek over, trying to figure out, who is voicing who. 

Speaking of geeking out-there are also dozens of amazing cameos in the film, and we're not just talking about DC characters (wink, wink). 

8/10 The Lego Batman Movie is a treasure trove of super hero and pop culture references that every geek would love. It is a crazy, hilarious adventure as expected with some warm hugs here and there. 

MOVIES: LEGO ROBIN THRILLED TO FIGHT CRIME WITH LEGO BATMAN

Sometimes a celebrity billionaire who’s trying to show off at a big gala event adopts a young orphan. It probably happens all the time, right? Well, Dick Grayson is that kid, and he can’t believe his good luck in getting a cool new dad like Bruce Wayne, with a huge empty mansion and his own personal butler.

Soon after the adoption, Batman suddenly got a kid sidekick to deal with. Where Batman is silent, serious and brooding, Robin is loud, enthusiastic and constantly bursting with excitement about getting to work with his favorite Super Hero and new dad. Coincidence?

Dick Grayson talks about this while promoting the upcoming adventure comedy The LEGO Batman Movie from Warner Animation Group.

Question: We heard you’ve recently been adopted. That’s great news. Can you tell us a little about your new dad?
Dick Grayson: He’s Bruce Wayne! The billionaire, business tycoon and Gotham’s most eligible bachelor, now and forever. He’s the Greatest Orphan of All Time!

Comedian Will Arnett who voices The Dark Knight in Warner Animation Group's The LEGO Batman Movie took time to greet Filipino fans as he invited them to watch the new comedy adventure.

“Kumusta, Philippines!,” says Arnett at the start of the video, and after introducing himself, deadpans “I have to say that never in my life that I'd ever dreamed I'd be starring in my own Batman film.”

The Joker: Yes! Look, Batman may ‘fight around’ with a bunch of Gotham’s B-through-Z list villains, but what we have is special! I’m not just ‘some bad guy.’ I’m his greatest enemy!

Taking a break from saving Gotham City from crazy baddies, Batman does a sitdown interview to promote his upcoming adventure comedy The LEGO Batman Movie from Warner Animation Group.

A night-stalking, crime-fighting vigilante and heavy metal rapping machine. Super Hero. Master Builder. Batman is all this and much more. He also always works alone.

Question: So, you’re the number one Super Hero in Gotham City?
Batman: I am. And the number one billionaire, and number one celebrity, and number one most eligible bachelor, and number one ab model, and number one humble-bragger.

Q: That’s very impressive. And who would you say is your number one bad guy?
Batman: Nobody. I fight lots of criminals, but no one who stands out to me in any way. Especially not someone who wears garish clown makeup, a cheap purple suit, and is totally obsessed with me.

Q: It sounds like you’re describing The Joker.
Batman: The what now? I’m not familiar with anyone by that name.


Q: What about your sidekicks? Describe your working relationships with Barbara Gordon and Robin.
Batman: They’re less ‘sidekicks’ and more ‘people who idolize Batman and are always telling me how awesome I am.’ And I respect that about them. They’re two of the best in the biz.

Movies: BATMAN RAISES ROBIN IN NEW TRAILER OF “THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE”

Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled a new trailer for “The LEGO Batman Movie” during the film's Comic-Con panel last Saturday, July 16, and the studio has now made it available online athttps://youtu.be/3ETpKEvEB3k.

The new trailer introduces Robin, who in this version, was mistakenly adopted by Bruce Wayne in a charity auction.

“The LEGO Batman Movie” is the animated Caped Crusader’s spinoff feature from the critically acclaimed box-office hit “The LEGO Movie.”

Movie News: WARNER BROS. PICTURES’ CINEMACON PRESENTATION HITS THE JACKPOT IN LAS VEGAS

Big Movies, Big Stars and Big News Take

Center Stage at the Studio’s Big Picture Presentation

BURBANK, CA, April 12, 2016 – Warner Bros. Pictures showcased an impressive lineup of talents and highly anticipated films at this year’s CinemaCon, which generated tremendous excitement for the Studio’s wide-ranging slate. Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara opened the program and announced that Ben Affleck—who will again play the role of Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie—will direct, as well as star in, a new stand-alone Batman feature.

The Studio’s presentation was highlighted by trailers and film clips—including some never-before-seen footage—and appearances by some of the major stars and filmmakers involved in each of the movies. It also served to illustrate Tsujihara’s statement about the diversity of the slate: built on the foundation of the key franchises of DC Super Heroes, animated LEGO^® features, and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” but also encompassing a broad scope of dramas, action adventures, horror thrillers and comedies.

There were also speeches from Sue Kroll, in her new post as Warner Bros. Pictures President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, who was recently named President of Worldwide Distribution.

Remarking on the Warner Bros. event, Kroll said, “CinemaCon is always one of the high points of our year: when we get to introduce our upcoming slate to our partners in the exhibition community who are responsible for bringing our films to audiences worldwide. It was wonderful to have this opportunity to showcase the broad range of films Warner Bros. has on the horizon, as well as some of the extraordinary artists behind them.”

Kwan Vandenberg added, “We appreciated the enthusiastic participation of actors and filmmakers from every title, who added tremendous star power to the presentation. CinemaCon gives us a chance to reinforce our commitment to the big-screen experience on a global level.”

Kicking off the film presentation with a bang, Ben Affleck and Amy Adams introduced a thrilling reel spotlighting the Studio’s ambitious slate of DC films. The roster includes the new Justice League film, as well as stand-alone features for Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg. Director Zack Snyder closed the reel with a greeting from the Justice League film set, surrounded by his stars.

The DC preview also included a glimpse of the summer’s hotly anticipated action adventure “Suicide Squad” and, immediately following, writer/director David Ayer took the stage and introduced the main ensemble cast, led by Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Joel Kinnaman. The extended version of the “Suicide Squad” trailer was met with loud applause and the buzz surrounding the film was palpable.

Host Mario Lopez then took the attendees through the rest of the summer line-up, including advance footage from the wide range of titles. The stars and filmmakers who excited the crowd about their upcoming films included: Russell Crowe for the action comedy “The Nice Guys”; Emilia Clarke for the drama “Me Before You” (from New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn Mayer); James Wan, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson for the supernatural thriller “The Conjuring 2” (from New Line Cinema); Teresa Palmer and David F. Sandberg for the horror thriller “Lights Out” (from New Line Cinema); Kevin Hart and Rawson Marshall Thurber for the action comedy “Central Intelligence” (from New Line Cinema and Universal Pictures), which included a taped greeting from Dwayne Johnson; Alexander Skarsgård, Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz for the adventure “The Legend of Tarzan” (from Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures); and Todd Phillips and Bradley Cooper for the comedic drama “War Dogs,” which is based on real events.

FANTASTIC BEASTS & WHERE TO FIND THEM

Looking past the summer, Warner Bros. unveiled some of the films on the drawing board from the Warner Animation Group, or WAG for short. Three of the brilliant minds in the WAG think tank—Christopher Miller, Phil Lord and Nicholas Stoller—came to the stage to introduce a special reel featuring a few of the titles in the pipeline, anchored by three new films in the LEGO^® movie franchise: “The LEGO^®Batman Movie,” “The LEGO^® Movie 2” and “Ninjago.” Stoller, who co-directed the next WAG film on the slate, “Storks,” was joined by fellow director Doug Sweetland and voice talents Andy Samberg and Katie Crown to present new footage from the heartwarming and hilarious family adventure.

The animation portion wrapped with never-before-seen footage from “The LEGO^® Batman Movie,” which gives the breakout star of the hit “The LEGO^® Movie” a film of his own. Drawing laughter and enthusiastic applause, the clip was presented by producers Lord and Miller, joined by the voice of LEGO^® Batman himself, Will Arnett, who made a surprise appearance to the delight of everyone there.

Warner Bros. closed the presentation with a look at the most magical film of the year, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” written by Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling, which will bring moviegoers to a new place and time in the wizarding world. Four of the film’s stars, Eddie Redmayne, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler and Colin Farrell, came to the stage to introduce the new teaser trailer and a look behind the scenes of the film, which has already captivated fans.
